Hydroelastic Behavior of a Floating RingShaped Plate
Alexey I. Andrianov & Aad J. Hermans
Abstract. The interaction between incident surface water waves and floating elastic plates is studied.
This paper considers the diffraction of plane incident waves on a
floating flexible ringshaped plate and its response to the incident
waves.
An analytic and numerical study of the hydroelastic behavior of the
plate is presented. An integrodifferential equation is derived for the
problem and an algorithm of its numerical solution is proposed. The
representation of the solution as a series of Hankel functions is the
key ingredient of the approach.
After an introduction, the problem is formulated. In Section 3 the main
integrodifferential equation is on the basis of the Laplace equation
and thinplate theory. The freesurface elevation, plate deflection and
Green's function are expressed in polar coordinates as the
superpositions of Hankel and Bessel functions, respectively. These
expressions, given in Section 4, are used in a further analysis of the
integrodifferential equation. The problem is solved for two cases of
water depth: infinite and finite.
For the coefficients in the case of infinite depth a set of algebraic
equations is obtained, yielding an approximate solution in Section 6.
Then a solution is obtained for the general and most interesting case
of finite water depth analogously in the seventh section. The exact
solution might be approximated by taking into account a finite number
of the roots of the plate dispersion relation.
Also, the influence of the plate's motion on wave propagation in the
open water field and within the gap of the ring is studied. Numerical
results are presented for illustrative purposes.
Keywords: diffraction, hydroelastic response, integrodifferential equation, platewater interaction, ringshaped plate.

Hydroelasticity of a Circular Plate on Water of Finite or Infinite Depth
Alexey I. Andrianov and Aad J. Hermans
Abstract. This paper considers the problem of diffraction of incident surface
waves on a floating elastic circular plate. We investigate hydroelastic
response of the plate to a plane incident wave for two cases of water
depth. In the second section we formulate the problem. In the third
section the case of infinite depth is considered and we derive a main
integrodifferential equation. The free surface elevation and Green's
function are expressed in cylindrical coordinates as a superposition of
Bessel functions. For the coefficients a set of algebraic equations is
obtained, yielding the approximate solution. Then in the fourth section
a solution is obtained for the general case of finite water depth
analogously. The exact solution is approximated by taking a finite
number of roots of the dispersion relation into account. Numerical
results are presented for various physical parameters of the problem in
fifth section. Some remarks on numerical computation and a discussion
of results are also given.
Keywords: hydroelasticity, circular plate, incident waves, deep water,
water of finite depth, diffraction, deflection, Green's function,
Bessel functions.

The Influence of Water Depth on the Hydroelastic Response of a Very Large Floating Platform
(running title: A Very Large Floating Platform on Water of Infinite, Finite or Shallow Depth)
Alex I. Andrianov and Aad J. Hermans
Diffraction
of incoming surface waves by very large floating platform (VLFP) is investigated
in the paper for three cases: infinite, finite and shallow water. An analytical
study for the deflection of the platform, reflection and transmission of
incoming waves is presented. For each case the problem is solved for two
forms of the platform: strip of the infinite length and halfplane plate.
The platform is idealized as a plate with elastic properties of zero thickness.
Integrodifferential, boundary and transition equations and Green's function
are used for the solution. Numerical results are obtained for various values
of general parameters. Deflection of the strip and of the semiinfinite platform
are compared for different values of depth.

The Investigation of a Strip with Interface Cracks along the Fixed Edges under Bending Load
(TimoshenkoReissner method)
A.I.Andrianov, V.V.Loboda
Stressstrain of a strip with an interface cracks along the fixed edges under
bending load is considered. To avoid the oscillating singularities the short
intermediate zones at the crack tips are introduced. The quasiinvariance
of the energy release rate with respect to the intermediate zone length is
found out. (on Russian)

The Investigation of a Strip with Interface Cracks Along the Fixed Edges under Bending Load
Alex I.Andrianov, Vladimir V.Loboda
The contact zones model is derived from the exact solution of the bending problem for an interface cracks
with contact zones of arbitrary length. Stressstrain state of a strip with an interface cracks along the fixed edges
under bending load is considered. To avoid the oscillating singularities the short intermediate zones at the crack tips
are introduced. The approximate relations for the intermediate zone length determination in terms of the stress intensity
factors (SIFs) are found and the example of these relations utilization is presented. Quasiinvariance of the energy
release rate (ERR) with respect to the intermediate zone length is proved and a simple way of the ERR numerical
determination is suggested.
